EMILY RICE
Emily Rice (b. 2002) is a mixed media artist based in Cape Town, who completed her Bachelors in Fine Art from Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2024. Her work explores the delicate yet powerful structure of vulnerability and the balance between fragility and strength. Focusing on the manipulation of repurposed textiles and scrap fabric, she integrates plaster and transforms fabrics into new textures and interpretations. Constantly experimenting with various methods of working with and creating new textiles. Rooted in the enjoyment of the creative process, her practice embraces play, allowing her to create immersive experiences that speak to the vulnerability inherent in personal growth. Her practice centers on the therapeutic nature of creation, using tactile materials to engage both the body and mind, transforming ordinary fabrics into vessels of expression. Through her work, Emily aims to invite the viewer into a space where fragility is celebrated, encouraging a deeper reflection on the strength that comes from embracing vulnerability.

Jalaun Schultz
Expressive floral artist that loves a bold palette, vibrant colours and joyful exuberant compositions.
Jalaun Schultz never imagined she’d become an artist. Growing up, art wasn’t even an option at her school, and she pursued a degree in law at Stellenbosch University instead. That moment came in her early forties when she stepped away from full-time work to help her husband in his wine business while raising their two children. With a little more time on her hands, she realised that if she didn’t at least try to paint, she might regret it forever. Jalaun threw herself into the world of painting, absorbing everything she could about techniques, textures and materials. Without formal training, she experimented and explored, finding her own expressive style along the way. For her, art is more than just a creative outlet – it’s a passion, a calling, and a way to truly be herself.Norval Foundation Silver Membership
